American-Senegalese artist Akon has revealed plans to outdoor a new cryptocurrency named after himself called ‘Akoin’ as the central form of exchange. He unveiled this ambitious project at a creative festival in Cannes, where he spoke at a panel titled Branding Africa: Blockchain, Entrepreneurship and Empowering the Future.
The Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling artist also wants to build his own city in Senegal ,West Africa known as the Akon Crypto City.
Also, a Nigerian cloud accounting platform Accounteer was on Thursday adjudged winner of the inaugural $50, 000 MEST Africa Challenge. The pitch competition was held on the final day of the MEST Africa Summit in Cape Town.
Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency could be the savior for Africa in many ways because of its high security factor. The app-based system allows people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down.
