Sudan couple mourn jihadist child

In Sudan’s capital Khartoum, a family is still mourning the loss of their daughter killed in fighting in neighbouring country Libya.

Businessman Alithi Yousef and his wife Manal Fadlallah reminisce about their daughter Aya who had a four-month-old baby daughter.

“We have a great responsibility because Lojien is very dear to our eyes, as her mother was. Her mother Aya was very special to us, and we will never forget it,” said Yousef.

Aya once a medical student in Khartoum left the country in 2015 to join the Jihadist Islamic State group in Libya.

According to Yousef, his daughter disappeared on August 30 and the family did not know of her whereabouts.

She later called her family saying she joined IS with four female friends.

“Aya changed her clothes, began to wear conservative clothes, changed friends and began to meet women dressed in conservative Islamic clothes, stopped to greet the men, and would pray for avery long time,” Yousef added.

Aya’s daughter Lojien was brought to Khartoum in February and this has helped to ease the family’s pain.
