Libyan forces have been searching recaptured Islamic State facilities including a court house and a police station that had been occupied by the Islamic State in Sirte.
The forces say they are close to capturing Sirte after a three month exchange of fire with the militants.
According to information released by Libya’s media office, dozens of bodies of Islamic State fighters have been discovered in the newly captured areas.
Supported by US airstrikes, Sirte has almost fallen into the hands of the militants as strikes have facilitated the advance of Libyan troops who had been slowed by suicide bombings, snipers and mines.
The Islamic State took control of Sirte last year and started implementing similar policies like in Iraq and Syria.
There are fears that escaped ISIS militants based in Libya or elsewhere could benefit from the country’s political turmoil to continue causing havoc if the city’s recapture is not completed.
